Well now that the 2013 season is well under way I wonder how far people think Andy can get up the rankings. If Andy can have an improved spring and clay court season perhaps reaching the semis at Roland Garros and then win Wimbledon then surely he can take the No.2 slot by the end of the summer.

When Rafael Nadal was ranked (and seeded) No.2 he was constantly put in Andy's half of the draw. Now for me that is a bad match up for Andy but now there have been changes. If we were to go into the US Open with these rankings and seedings then the semi-finals draw would be like this (should all four top seeds make the semis):-

    Roger Federer V Rafael Nadal

    Novak Djokovic V Andy Murray

Given the comparative slump in Novak's form lately I'd be...

Now I am no expert with these rankings but by my estimations if Andy were to end up as runner-up in Japan and winning in Shanghai or vice versa then Andy will overtake Roger Federer in the rankings. The difference at the moment in 965 points. Andy on 125 points earned so far in Japan will earn 250 points even for a defeat in the final so that would put him 715 points behind Fed. However, Fed has pulled out of the Shanghai Masters and so cannot defend the 600 points he earned for last year so will lose them I do believe leaving the gap at 115 points so if Andy wins (he needs to to defend his points...

Good article. I wasn't aware of the French dominance in the 1920's leading to the building of RG.

I am a bit perplexed by the comments. I have nothing against Del Potro and enjoy watching him play but can't really understand why some are saying he should be included in the four rather than AM. I know he has the slam win but, due to injury, he did not have the opportunity to back it up and it can't be said for certain whether he would have been able...
