Lets hear it for the girls !!!

Laura Robson putting up her trademark fighting style against Kim Clijsters, went a break down to go 4-1 behind and broke back later to go 4-5 and serving.

Great stuff from Laura but Kim ain't going to take that lying down.

And she's done it, amazing play from Laura, broke back under such extreme pressure, and the crowd are loving it, every bit of it and her.

4-5 and Laura now has to serve yet again to stay in this match, she'd be a better man than me if she comes through this service game.

Oh, what a rally to finish off Laura's campaign.

I have to say, she did herself proud and its a credit to her to get this far and play like that against 3 slam champions in succession.

Laura is now a name in America, they'll remember her for all the right reasons.

Well done Robson, shame you lost, but you put up one hell of a fight !

And what an experience for her, this has got to stand her in good stead for the future, knowing that the hard work she has put in has paid off in dividends galore.

In the end I make that 9 MP's that Laura saved, now there's not many players that can say that.

*edit*

8 MP's "saved" of course !

To push the defending champion that far was a fantastic effort.

Fantastic commentary Jubbs!

I didn't see the match and didn't know the result.

Sooo exciting scrolling through this thread, it was just like being there

Aaaw... commiserations to Laura.

She has seriously done herself proud at this USO.

I don't follow her at all but it's been very exciting keeping up with her progress the last few days.

Thanks again Jubbs.

Loved the running commentary Jubba. Great stuff.

Laura Robson has taken a massive step forward in her career at this US Open. She went down fighting yesterday evening but she was so close even though her performance wasn't as top notch as the previous two rounds. That speaks volumes for her and all at the of 18. Great stuff Laura.

Thanks all for compliments peeps.

Laura certainly kept the match going in the last 4 games, it even looked as if she may turn it around, she has done that many times in the past, but not against a quality player like Stosur, but still, she had her chances and it could have been a different story if she'd taken them, as Stosur was very subdued that day. It could be said that Laura pinned Sam to the baseline and moved her round efficiently to open up the court, also that Laura didnt play to her full potential, and they'd be right, but I think it showed her more than anything else that the work she has put in, and its not been ground breaking stuff, just stamina and movement improvements, has given her the chance to expand and lengthen points and stay in the match longer.

If anything, her confidence to play the shots she can do has rocketed, and I think the Olympics contributed to that confidence, but its a combination of things that has given her the skills to put the likes of Clijsters and Na to the sword.

CaledonianCraig wrote:Well as I understand it she will get 180 points even if she loses against Stosur. Now that being the case she could rise up to around 70 from the 89 she is ranked at just now. That is a rough estimate.

Well as I thought Laura has moved up to No.75 in the rankings and grinning Greg was wrong as he forecast she would move up to around No.50.
