World Tour Finals

Post by Guest on Fri 2 Sep 2011 - 14:09

Hi All, I'm looking for some regarding attending 02 Arena for WTF sessions. Has anyone been? I've got travel to and from London Euston, and onto Jubilee Line on Tube worked out. Looking for best info on hotels near to (within moderate price) and limited travel distance to and from hotel to 02. Is it best to stay in Greenwich?? Also any info on when the evening sessions tend to finish would be very helpful.

Much appreciated

I'd help if I could MTS but I'm not familiar with London.

I think Jubba's down that way....he might be able to help you.

Thanks Sol.

I'm taking a leap of faith and just going to book up. Importantly seen Andy was confirmed as third player to officially qualify for the finals in November. Go Andy

The O2 arena is easy to get to, but accommodation wise, you may have to get "decent" lodgings a little further away.

Closest and cheapest I could find was (just across river)..1st link is for reviews, 2nd link is website.

Hotel ibis London Docklands
1 Baffin Way, London E14 9PE
http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-2177-ibis-london-docklands/index.shtml

A little further away, but still close...

Holiday Inn Express Hotel London Royal Docks-Docklands
1 Silvertown Way, London E16 1EA
http://www.exhi-royaldocks.co.uk/

The one I'd prob stay at would be...

Custom House Hotel Excel
272-283 Victoria Dock Road, London E16 3BY
http://www.customhouse-hotel.co.uk/
A short bus ride or walk to Canning Town, one stop to O2, but looks comfortable and reasonably priced. You will have to pay for brekky etc !

They all have their pros and cons, its finding the one with the least cons that makes your visit bearable. Good Luck.

Many thanks Jubba, I'm all booked up. Got two day and evening sessions that should enable me to see all the players. I cannot wait.

No problemo MTS1, hope whatever hotel you're staying in provides decent food and rooms.

Is it close to the O2 ?

I've booked the Clarendon which is in Greenwich and the reviews are good, bus stop is right outside the hotel and is 15 mins route. Plus I get a free travel pass for the bus to the 02 as part of the deal Very Happy . TBH I am only using it to sleep in as I am going to tennis for two full days then back up the road first thing in the morning. I'd sleep on a cement block just to get to see the tennis Very Happy

Would work out a lot cheaper, but you'd look grotty in the morning.

I do believe the draw takes place tomorrow and I am not sure what seeding system they are going with for this. As things stand I am pretty sure it will be won by one of the top four. However, Djokovic's fitness must be questioned and lessen his chances, Nadal will be a tad rusty and so I'd say in best form and shape going into this are Andy Murray and Roger Federer. I still worry that Andy's niggling injury will hamper him but fingers crossed he can put on a strong showing.

I reckon Andy will be very focussed on this, but I also think Roger is on a mission and aims to take no prisoners, depending on the draw it may be those two in the final. Roger is not going to give up his 1500 points easily.

Well now that we know Andy and Fed are in different groups, whats the forecast???? I'm not convinced Nole is right, we could possibly see a shocker, have to go with Andy, but Ferrer or Berdych????? Hmmm going to go with Ferrer Shocked Although just to cover myself, Nole definitely if he is fit Very Happy Now Nadal and Fed?? Tsonga and Fish, just not convinced Tsonga has the fitness as this stage so leaning towards Rafa and Roger to go through, slight doubt with Rafa but can't tell for sure as he missed Paris. Time will surely tell Very Happy Nothing like sitting on the fence.....

It could prove tricky for Andy unless he is on top form. Berdych is the danger as he has the type of game to trouble Andy. Ferrer holds no fears for me or Andy as I do believe he has a 100% hard court record against him. Djokovic (if fit) will be a very tough challenge. I am hoping Andy gets through the Round Robin stage.

The other group well you have to go with Federer and Nadal (if fully fit and sharp).

I'm going Tuesday/Wednesday and expect the matches I see will be Fed/Fish, Nadal/Tsonga then Andy/Berdych, Nole/Ferrer. Would this be correct??? Can't see the top seeds playing each other in the middle of the group matches, does anyone know if this has happened before?

The Tuesday line-up is the winner v winner and loser v loser of Sunday's matches, with Wednesday ditto re Monday's matches. Usually.

Tsonga has arrived at the party. 5-2 up serving for the second set. And so he takes it. 1-1. Game on!

Just watched the recording on my SKY box.

Can't say I was impressed with Federer, the match could have gone to Tsonga but didn't.

When was the last time Roger played a top 3 player, because he will have to up his game for sure.

I can't say I was too impressed by Rafa last night either. Of course, he often plays badly (but still wins!) in the early stages of tournaments, especially after a lay-off.

Rafa didn't look well though, did he? Rumours of an upset stomach, went off court to throw up (reportedly) in the third, and generally looked quite pale. I expect him to improve. Was disappointed by the quality of the tennis in both matches, hopefully today is better!
